In the guitar industry there was one man who was responsible for establishing the world market, David Magagna. David Magagna was the first salesman for Martin Guitars and worked his way up to Vice President before leaving to establish and grow international sales for Taylor Guitars, David has replicated his formula of service, sarcastic wit and aligning with great companies like the aforementioned and Guild, Lowden, PRS and eventually with Riversong Guitars. After coming out of retirement he told Mike Miltimore that he has “a very low threshold for boredom and that Riversong is the only company that is doing anything of interest”.
Since that infamous first meeting David established and grew Riversong’s International business on his reputation for quality and contacts around the world. David felt strongly that the Riversong line needed another model which he designed with Mike, known as the Riversong Magagna G2. Sadly David Magagna has passed away and we will be greatly missed.
This guitar body shape is called the JA (Jumbo Auditorium) After a mistaken drawing was used to build the forms, the resultant guitar was a ¼" larger all the way around. This "Happy Mistake" created a unique body shape that is also thin for an amazing sounding and feeling guitar. This model was the first to feature our Skeletized Bracing and X-braced back. It includes all Riversong features such as skeletized bracing, double reaction bridge, top and back X-bracing, Neck -Thru Adjustable neck, Truetonation system, diffuser disc, free floating top, and sideport.
"It was a great honour to build this guitar with David. I am proud that we built a guitar that is loved by so many people and that Davids legacy in the music industry will live on with this guitar!" ~Mike Miltimore
Neck-thru Construction - The Patented Riversong Neck System
Our patented Neck-thru technology offers many benefits including strength, intonation, less bracing, easier playing due to the ability to make precise adjustments, variable top loading, an even balanced sustain tone, and volume up and down the neck (yes even on the body), eliminating the need of an expensive neck reset, slinky easy string tension, reduced heel, and the integrated strap pins are part of the structure of the guitar.
Riversong's unique patented Neck-thru design also has a truss rod that runs the full length of the neck. Most traditional guitars have a truss rod that ends at the 14th fret and continuing with an elongated screw head. Riversong necks have a full-length truss rod that adjusts the entire length closer to how an electric guitar is constructed.
The patented neck system has a small amount of flex (like a Strat) and this allows regular gauge strings to feel a lot less stiff further enforcing our electric-like feel.
Our Active Body System
Riversong’s innovation is the active body system. It works by moving the neck all the way through the body allowing two things happen:
The structure shifts from neck joint to the end block
The mass of the neck is now equal in and out of the guitar and it is free to vibrate like a tuning fork helping to ring up and down the neck and throughout the body. With the structure coming from the back of the guitar, the body and the neck has a little bit of flex (like a Strat vs a Les Paul) this flex gives the body the ability to freely vibrate and give the strings a really slinky feel (low tension)
D'Addario XT strings combine high carbon steel cores with an advanced corrosion resistance treatment, giving you enhanced break resistance, pitch stability, and long-lasting performance –– all while preserving the tone and feel of your favorite uncoated strings. These are strings made to stay, with uncompromising performance that never fades away..
